About Stephanie

IMG_4776

Hello there! I’m Stephanie, and my favorite phrase I use to describe myself is…“work in progress”.

After growing up on the East Coast of the US in New Jersey (I know), moving out West to Los Angeles, moving to New York City twice & a stint in the Midwest (Kansas City, anyone?) I abruptly packed my bags in the middle of my first year of university in NYC & moved to Taipei, Taiwan on a winter-break whim.

….And I still stand by it as one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because I fall in love with every new leafy lane I discover! (Oh, and the food!)

I started this blog to document the bevy of wonderful things to do, see and eat in Taipei, as well as my experiences living abroad as an “ABC” (American Born Chinese) living the student life at a Taiwanese university. During a typical Taipei, things don’t always come up roses (sometimes, they’re more like stinky tofu)–but honestly, when I think of what I’ve gained in moving here, every day in Taipei is “a good day”.

I’m currently studying at 台灣國立大學 (National Taiwan University) & when I’m not spending my time buried up to my ears in Calculus & Accounting texts, here are a few things I do to while away the days:

…go on nature hikes & photo-shoot adventures….(“glamping, anyone? I’m an unabashed fan)–

IMG_3932…indulge in my writing & blog-reading whims at cafes (my absolute favorite pastime!)…

IMG_7291…traipsing all around the globe with my best friends…

IMG_5599…and when I can’t go far—going on bike adventures all around the best city in the world (hint: It’s Taipei) & finding new things to explore & more things I love.

  1. Just stumbled upon your blog and I love it! Would love to know what camera you use for your photos, they’re prefect!

      • I found your blog after Googling information on whether I should move back to Taiwan or back to Japan (I’ve lived in both). My gut is leaning towards Taipei…

I love that you use your phone for your photos! I use my iPhone for ALL of my photos and have become a bit obsessed with filters:)

      • I am such a fan of iPhone photography! easy, and stunning! And you should definitely move to Taipei 🙂 Check out my new blog thethousandthgirl.com for more tips & guides, I’m updating there now!

  2. Hi Stephanie, I’m Andrés Herrera (鐵男) Editor of Yuanfang Magazine, a Spanish blog on Taiwan and the Chinese World. It would be an honor for us to publish your photos on our website and facebook, and spread your blog. Do we have your permission?
I hope this is the beginning of a long friendship.
    Greetings from Pamplona (Spain)

  3. I’m so excited I stumbled upon your blog! I’m visiting Taipei early November and this is exactly the type of website/guide I’ve been looking for. Gorgeous photos, great tips! Thanks!!! – Lauren (Washington, D.C.)

  4. Hi Stephanie – We have to (unfortunately) stay in Zhongli city for three days for a conference, but then plan to stay in Taipei proper for the rest of the trip. What’s a nice area for a couple in their late-20s, early 30s to stay in? The W Hotel is a bit out of our price range.

  5. Hey, i came across your blog when i googling bout any H&M outlets in Taipei. Sadly no. I am visiting taipei early Jan. Btw, i read your iceland trip entry. Interesting. i am super fanatic of Iceland. Been there twice. Love Bon Iver and Sigur ros too. Let me know if you keen to have a coffee in Taipei.

So, any thoughts?
